What is One World Center?

One World Center is a research non-profit organization with a mission to inspire and empower ordinary people to take action against worldwide poverty.

Our “Fighting Shoulder to Shoulder with The Poor” program offers individuals an opportunity to develop leadership skills and gain experience and outlook through international service work in Africa and Latin America.

During the training before going overseas you will learn about the world, focusing on pressing issues of the developing world, and you will deepen your understanding and train skills that you cannot be without working as a volunteer abroad, or as a modern human being living in the 21st century.

How long is the program?

The program is 18 months:

    • 6 months studying the world, its problems and its potential future; living in a community setting and fundraising at our campus in Michigan.
    • 6 months working on a project site in Africa or Brazil
    • 6 months back in the States reporting on your experiences and new found insights and preparing for and deciding about your future path.

What are my benefits?

Start a career and build a great resume.

Our partner Humana People to People will award you a service certificate after you complete your work in Africa or Brazil.

You will earn an OWC Development Instructor Certification; and you will have the option to enroll as a Distant Learner in One World University and earn 62 credits for all your studies.

Who can apply?

The program has no education requirements, and all applicants who are at least 18 years of age are considered.

You must be willing to travel, meet new people, be open to new experiences, be willing to rough it from time to time, and, most importantly, feel the need to help others.

How do I apply?

First submit an initial application using our online form. You will be invited to attend one of our introductory meetings, where you will learn more about the program requirements, as well as the work that One World Center and its partners are doing world wide.
